Over the years, the members of 'the
Undecided' have performed under
many different band names, and some of its members have performed in
different bands. However, in one form or another, Deborah
Novak (lead vocal/guitar/harmonica), Bil Ruiz (lead
guitar/vocal), and Bill McFadden (drums/vocal) have stuck
together through most of it since the formation of the original
lineup created in 1984. That lineup, which included the
members above along with John Sleeger (bass guitar/vocal) and
Jim Jensen (keyboards/vocal) was know as
the Deborah Rose Band.
Today, busy lives are the rule of the day: business, family, and
personal commitments have made it much more difficult for band
members to make themselves available when opportunity calls.
Important shows with acts like The Zombies, Robert Cray, and Honk,
to name a few, have been turned aside due to conflictng schedules or
other conflicts. Moreover, differences in musical tastes, the
need to challenge onesself, and the drive of the creative process
does not always allow people to continue where they once counted on
each other exclusively. While the desire to keep strong bonds
built over the years intact, particularly when it is so successful
and built on close friendships, the reality of unfolding events may
not produce as much opportunity as some desire.
Thus, along came the idea of reforming
the Deborah Rose Band in a
musically different way, and as one way of addressing these issues
and allowing those who desire more performance opportunities to
fulfill that need. At the same time, we do want to continue
performances by 'the Undecided'
whenever such opportunities present themselves and when its members
find their schedules and desires to do so in agreement. As
such, the Deborah Rose Band is simply a way for those who remain
available at any given time to continue performing, albeit in a
musically different way.
Initially, the Deborah Rose Band
will be similar to an unplugged version of 'the
Undecided' and will feature
Deborah Novak (lead vocal/guitar/harp), Tom Bellone
(Hammond organ/piano/synths/mellodica/vocal), and Bill McFadden
(drums/percussion/vocal). Should any of the other members of 'the
Undecided' wish to join in such
performances that will, of course, be welcomed. Down the road,
the intent is to introduce other instruments, sounds, and
combinations via midi or other previously recorded means to expand,
enhance, and present our music in a different way than we previously
have.
We look forward to the journey, the change, and the new avenues of
creation, and hope to see you at our performances!
