I will be reviewing some of the maps I have played, or that you have sent
me for review. I will also offer up some of the best maps that I
find on the 'net' (in my
opinion) for download. Each map that makes the grade will score an A
or a B, which will include minus scores. Any map that scores less
than that will not appear here, unless there is some hope for fixing it
(i.e. a minor flaw that can be easily corrected by the author).
Further, I tend to favor Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Search &
Destroy, and Attack & Defend type games, so I will be reviewing with
that kind of game play in mind. The following are my preliminary choices,
which will probably be thinned out a bit as I play them more and form
better assessments.

OBeachUW.bms
-
(165 kb) This map looks great! It is a series of encapments/town sections nestled
in small enclaves within a hilly, palm-filled tropical island setting. A
few 50 cal. gun emplacements are sprinkled around the hillsides. There is
an armory as well. Looks like a winner.

LWDesertEye.bms

(63 kb) This map has great potential for a real bloodbath scenario. The map is
set in a desert environment. There is one small town filled with
pueblo-style buildings, built in a small circular arrangement. There is an
armory, and a small smattering of objects such as flagpoles, boulders,
cactus, etc. Other than that, the surrounding landscape is hilly, but
barren. This map could get ugly in a hurry with many gunslingers, but
could also be an interesting map for snipers. Only one downside, but it is
minor: I could have done without the large blocks that spell out CAMO on
either side of the base, which is probably a reference to the author.
Leave it out next time. I blemishes what could have been a more
professional-looking effort.

BH_On_The_Farm.bms
-
(39 kb) This map has potential, but is not quite there yet. My first problem
with it is that it appears to contain at least one or two buildings from
every type of motif the editor has to offer. For example, there is a
pyramid, a few pagodas, a western town styled church, a hanger, a control
tower, a tent, etc. It looks like a hodge-podge of building types.
In my opinion, this ruins the effect on an otherwise well-done map. The skies
are a reddish-brown sunset color, and there are ample shaded hills
surrounding the central encampment. There are a couple of armories, and
lots of little goodies like 50 cal. emplacements, trucks, pickups, etc.
Also, the encampment is surrounded by rows of crops, which gives it an
agricultural area look. The map may still be a lot of fun, but really
needs the buildings to match up more. It also has a texture problem or
two, such as when I walked through the wall at the base of the pyramid.

Islandvsisland.bms
-
(93 kb) This map is a very good poor visibility map. It has a central
group of structures, along with several outlying defensive buildings, has
hills and valleys, as well as a low-lying marsh-like area with puddles of
water. Cloud cover is low, haze is thick, it is raining, and the
overall mood is fairly dark. It is definitely difficult to see the
enemy long-range on this map. This lack of visibility is the only
thing I scored down for on this one, as many people will not like to play
in such an environment. However, in order to practice operating in
poor visibility, this map is a keeper.

Battle
ot bulge.bms
-
(146 kb) Meant to be Battle Of The Bulge, the misspelled name does little to harm
this map. This map is very well done. It is set in a mountainous
area, with lots of valleys and ravines. There are two main bases, each
modeled after a munitions-supply depot motif. There are lots of truck
convoys, crates, and other temporary-type buildings in each.
Visibility is good, and there are two armories and two flagpoles. Only
one minor flaw, and that is the bases are a little far apart. Once you
are killed and respawn, it can take quite a while to get back to the other
base, provided that's where you want to go. Otherwise, this is an
excellent map.

Dry
one.bms
-
(63 kb) This map is also very good. It has a desert motif, with many
western-styled and pueblo-type buildings around. Although it is a big
map, and probably better suited to more players, rather than less, it is a
very well designed map. The theme work matches well, and the
visibility is good. A very nice job overall, and should be fun to
play.

Japan
1943.bms
-
(136 kb) This map is also very nice. There are two large hills with each
team's pagoda on top. In between the two bases, are many ravines,
valleys, bunkers, etc., with a large supply depot in the middle.
Visibility is good, and the skies are lightly clouded with a blue and purple
tinge. The bases appear well-spaced, and this appears to be a
winner.

Tunnels.bms
-
(44 kb) This map looks very cool. There is a dry lake bed, with a crashed
aircraft in it. Surrounding the lake bed is a town with some
bunkers. The bunkers are entrances to a large labyrinth of tunnels
under the lake and town, and criss-cross in many directions. The
map includes armories, and visibility is good. This one looks like
it's going to be super fun to play.

Friend's
Maps
In
this section, you will find some maps that are created by our close circle
of gaming friends. The difference here is, that I will include an
email link to the author. You can then tell them what you think of
the map directly. Those who make maps may find this very helpful,
particularly if others find problems with the map, or if they have
suggestions for changes that help to make the map better. Anyway, on
to the maps our friends have made....

Hill.bms
-
(91 kb) This map
is set in a mountainous and grassy terrain, with the conflict centered
around a very large hill, on which there is a small town. It is
raining, and visibility is limited. there are a couple of buildings
on either side at the foot of the hill, and there are lots of pine
trees. The map has at least one armory cabinet, and koth center,
several Deathmatch starts, and one blue and one red start. This is a
very nice map, and fun to play.

High01.bms
- (117 kb) Welcome
to the "High" country! This map is in mountainous
snow and grass terrain (the Andes?), and features a large pyramid in
the valley surrounded by Mayan buildings, lots of trees, exploding
barrels, and crates. There are 4 control towers, lots of Mayan
towers, 9 armories, and 4 primary spawning areas. This is a
real cool map, and a great job for one of the author's first maps.

THE
NF-NastyAzz SERIES -
This is the beginning of a series of maps I will be creating for Delta
Force Land Warrior. There are many different types of maps here,
some large, some small. Some are made for many players with large
playing fields, and some are tight little battlefields. As I build
more, I will offer all my maps here for you to download if you like them.
SERIES
1 - These
are the first 6 maps I created with the DFLW Map Editor. You can download
all of them in a zip file at the bottom of the list, or individually below.

(59 kb) This map is my
very first map attempt, though it is obviously borne from the oil rig map
that came with the game. RBL-4Nik8r helped me learn a great deal
about the map editor as he talked me through the creation of this map
using Roger Wilco to talk as we worked on it. You already know how
this map works, and what it has in it, though we changed around the
spawning positions to parachutes and boats, and changed the sky and a few
other things. No surprises here, but big thanks to Mark (4Nik8r) for
helping me learn.

NastyAzz_RiverOfPain.bms
-
(79 kb) This is my first attempt at making a map from scratch. It is a
desert setting, with good-fair visibility. The "river" is
a dry riverbed, lined with Japanese bunkers facing various directions. Stone towers dot the landscape. There is a target range, with a 50 caliber machine
gun and automatic grenade launcher, and a few scattered buildings,
tents, truck convoys, crashed and parked aircraft, etc. The skies have a few
vultures circling, and you parachute in. This is a very large
map, and would be best played with many players.

NastyAzz_BigBadNasty.bms
-
(62 kb) This
is a large map, with a fighting area good for many players. It
features a central pyramid, with many buildings surrounding it.
There are lots of waterways surrounding the central battle area, with many
bridges crossing them to outlying areas the snipers will want access
to. There are a small handful of machine gun and auto-grenade
emplacements, and several groups of trucks.

(64 kb) This
map is for up close and crowded fighting. It is set in a
Beirut-style town, nestled in a small valley surrounded by large, rounded
hill tops. There are lots of trucks, pickups, crates, towers, and
plants spread all over the map. There are also two armories, and
many respawn spread throughout the town and on surrounding hillsides.

-
(94 kb) This
is a map for those who like it simple and tight. This map features
one small hill, with four Japanese bunkers facing in four directions,
marking the KOTH center at the top. Nearby these bunkers are two Beirut
ruins, one facing either side of the hill. At the bottom of
the hill are some small ponds, and outbound from them are some short
plateaus with a series of trenches. There are several machine gun
and auto-grenade emplacements surrounding the hill. The only other
cover on this map, is the ample plant life around the hill.

(70 kb) This
map came as a request from WF_Tango, in which he asked me to make a sniper map
for him with lots of hills, and hiding places. This map features two
villages, on either side of a lake that is fed and drained by a river.
Several bridge crossings are present, with a road passing through the southern
village. There are several Beirut-style buildings, and boat docks serving
each village with 3 Zodiac boats. There are many wooden towers on the tops
of the surrounding hills, lots of exploding crates, two armories, and 23 respawn
points.

(182 kb) One
big, barren hill, save one Mayan tower surrounded by Chinese wall battlements,
this map is very aptly named, and is a sniper's virtual holiday map. There
are several outcroppings of cactus and bushes at lower altitude vantage points,
two armories, one crashed C-130, and 14 respawn points. DM, TDM, KOTH,
TKOTH. This is a great desert map!

Waterworld.bms
-
(53 kb) This
map is completely unique. The battle area is a western-style town that is
completely submerged in a vast body of water. Players respawn on the
surface, and dive down to enter the action. Better put on your LAR-V
Rebreather and grab your underwater rifle first though... you're going to need
them. While you're at it, you may want to change your player attributes to
Aquatic Specialist. This change allows you to swim backwards and from side
to side, as well as in a forward direction. The map has 2 armories, 1 koth
center Mayan tower, and lots of murky water. Lots of fun!
